The Malian Army was attacked today, Sunday, April 21, 2019, around 5 am at Guiré, in the Nara sector. Reinforcements were dispatched there. Early this morning around 05H, heavily armed terrorists attacked a detachment of the Malian army based Guiré. It is located not far from a forest (the forest of Wagadou) extending from Mali to Mauritania and supposed to shelter the jihadists. The town of Guiré is 90 km southeast of Nara, the administrative centre.
Provisional balance: 13 soldiers killed, several vehicles carried along with weapons and ammunition. Reinforcements have left Nara for the locality.
The authorities have come under fire for failing to beat back militants and disarm militias, after a massacre of 157 villagers by an ethnic vigilante group shocked the nation in March.
